Threat level SEVERE. 16 ballistic missiles in an attack aimed mainly at Kyiv and its region (Zelensky), plus 269 drones and decoys and Iskander-K cruise missiles [2,1]; impacts at 25 locations [1]; energy facilities attacked in 11 oblasts and at least 550,000 families cut off [2]; Kyiv metro split [4] and a data center knocked out for good (Late item, 12:01 Kyiv) [6]; civilians killed in Kyiv and Donetsk Oblast [9].

Bottom line

1. Russia fired 16 ballistic missiles in several waves overnight into Monday 19 October, aimed mainly at Kyiv and its region, by Zelensky's count, and the Air Force listed no ballistic missile among the 247 targets it downed or suppressed [2,1].

2. The first wave, around 23:00 on Sunday 18 October, came with no warning from partners, hours after Zelensky told NBC that US alerts were back [3].

3. The grid took the wider blow: energy facilities were attacked in 11 oblasts, Ukrenergo reported outages in 10, and at least 550,000 families lost power [2,10].

4. In Kyiv a 21-year-old woman was killed and 8 people were injured, two left-bank metro stations closed [4,5]; later on Monday Datagroup said one of its data centers was permanently out of service [6].

5. The ground picture barely moved: no DeepState update found for the window, ISW logged Russian infiltrations rather than gains in Dobropillia, Lyman, Kupiansk and Orikhiv, and Kyiv rebutted a fresh run of Russian capture claims [14,15,18,19].
