Nova - This time the outmost of the city was nothing left

“This time the outmost of the city was nothing left. Russians at the time were controlling 90% of it. It was just a lot of drones, artillery, mortars, sniper fire and grenade launchers. First our mission was help to hold the front line. Which was roughly 50m toward the enemy. At the last day of the mission, our building was shelled by mortars and RPGs. We had no choice but to fall back to other buildings and reset fields of fire. There was no where to go and then a Russ Tank appeared on the main road and started to shoot the second floor of the building where we fell into the basement. After the tank, mortars and grenade launchers began to hit us & we started to receive more small arms fire. They were getting closer slowly, capturing our buildings where we had been previously. We began falling back to friendly position towards additional tall buildings, crossing LDAs and suffering from very close mortars impacting around us. Our group was almost smoked 2 times, immediately after we crossed the street, mortars hit our previous place where we had just been standing… 4 of our guys got shrapnel wounds and 5 of us got concussions.”


PL- Can you tell me what it was like fighting in Bakhmut? How has this front differed from other parts of the frontline?


Nova- t’s urban warfare but worse. Now you dealing with heavy arms. Tanks, artillery, mortars, white phosphorus and when they getting closer it’s grenade launchers and small arms. Everything around you is your cover, especially basements. Everyone here were sitting in the basements same as Russians, but even basements was getting destroyed by mortars and artillery, bury everyone under.


PL - What kind of soldiers are the Russians you fought? Did you fight Wagner? Regular Russian soldiers?


Nova - It was mostly Wagner. Professional Wagners PMCs were sitting behind and ruled over battlefield. They were using a lot of their PMC prisoners to assault the positions, they were loosing waves of people but they still were moving forward… without any pity for their people. Wagner were using their own tanks, artillery and mortars. Regular soldiers also were there, but mostly it was PMCs, it was their show.



PL - Were they talented soldiers? Bad soldiers?


Nova - As a soldiers no, as a meatballs that was moving forward walking above their dead comrades, yes. If we will take real Wagner PMC who are good equipped and they working as SOF teams - they have good experience, but they weren’t operating in the city very actively at this period. But yeh, their artillery and mortars with drones were doing their job. They were providing fire support and suppressive fire for their infantry and armor to move forward.



PL - Can you tell me about the mission in which you were shot? What happened?


Nova - It was again holding the line. 4:30AM, our guide appears too late so we didn’t have a chance to move not under night cover. It was foggy but it already was bright enough. We were about to cross the street and I saw on the right side 20m from me explosion, something shot already destroyed armor, we started to move faster and then I saw sparkling under second man feet’s, it was IDF. We started to cross LDA. I was third man and wile running through LDA I tried to stick closer to the 1 floor buildings on the opposite side and here I got shot by sniper 190-200m across another road behind us.
